Animal rescue and charitable organizations.

Dr. Slaton and Westlake Village Animal Hospital support a number of charitable rescue and shelter organizations which are providing a valuable service to our community. In an effort to encourage the public to adopt rescue and shelter animals, Westlake Village Animal Hospital will provide a free initial exam for anyone who brings their pet to us within 30 days of adoption along with a certification from a shelter or rescue organization. The following organizations are just a few of the many that Dr. Slaton and WVAH staff support:

Danny and Debbie Trejo's K9 Compassion Celebrity Gala

Danny & Debbie Dr. Daniel Slaton attended Danny and Debbie Trejo's K9 Compassion Celebrity Gala held on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Robano's Italian Restaurant in Toluca Lake, CA. Dr. Slaton is a supporter of The K9 Compassion Foundation, a 501 (C))3 nonprofit organization, that was created to educate, bring awareness, and provide money to the smaller worthy rescue groups so badly in need of financial help. S.A.F.E.
Another of Dr. Slaton's favorite nonprofit organizations is S.A.F.E.

S.A.F.E. Animal Rescue, a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization, is dedicated to rescuing the sick, injured, overlooked and forgotten dogs due to their medical conditions. S.A.F.E. often rescues "special needs" dogs from shelters.

These dogs are usually overlooked by the public because of their medical conditions. S.A.F.E. has successfully rescued and placed dogs with demodectic mange, eye/limb removal, skin conditions, broken bones, tumors, cherry eye, head trauma, and otherwise considered "unadoptable" dogs.

Malibu Pet Companions (MPC) was founded in 1998 by an Agoura Animal Shelter volunteer who wanted to find a way to fund medical care for homeless shelter animals. MPC was formed as a 501c3 non-profit corporation, and the result has been thousands of animal lives saved over the last 10 years. Many of these animals would never have been given a second chance without MPC funding, and would have likely faced the fate of euthanasia. Fortunately for those homeless pets at the Agoura Animal Shelter, MPC can fund any kind of care needed from minor to major surgeries (including spay/neuter), even special food and prescription medicines.

MPC is a community-based, all volunteer organization. Volunteers foster animals in their homes, transport them to veterinary appointments, and oversee their care while at the shelter. Volunteers receive no compensation for their time and effort other than the gratitude of the homeless pets they care for.

Much of this work would not be possible without the support of two extraordinary groups: those local veterinarians who provide their services at discounted rates, and the members of the public who so generously donate their time and money.
